Submitted by Bruce Buwalda, Committeeman 24th SD

WHEREAS, Amendment 3, the Marijuana Legalization Initiative, will appear on Missouri’s November 8, 2022, General Election ballot, and;

WHEREAS, the Missouri Republican Party’s Platform, approved by delegates elected to the Missouri Republican State Convention in 2020, supports the “strict enforcement and prosecution of laws on illegal drugs;”

WHEREAS, Amendment 3 is opposed by law enforcement organizations, drug counselors, the medical community, agriculture groups, and religious organizations;

WHEREAS, various other states that have legalized marijuana have seen increases in various social problems, including addiction, mental health problems, traffic deaths, and rising youth rates of marijuana consumption;

WHEREAS, Amendment 3 would write marijuana legalization into the Missouri Constitution, making it nearly impossible for local governments or the People, through their elected representatives, to correct or change any aspects of the law;

WHEREAS, no industry has ever been given a Constitutional right to sell their product in the state of Missouri;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Missouri Republican State Committee’s Executive Committee opposes Amendment 3, the Marijuana Legalization Initiative, on the November 8, 2022, General Election;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Missouri Republican State Committee’s Executive Committee urges all Missourians to vote “No” on Amendment 3.
