MRSC Executive Committee Passes Resolution Opposing Ranked Choice Voting

Missouri Republican State Committee

Resolution Opposing The Ranked Choice Voting

Constitutional Amendment Via Initiative Petition

Submitted by James Berberich, Committeeman 22nd SD

WHEREAS, the Missouri Republican Party has always worked for fair and honest elections, and

WHEREAS, the voting process of one person – one vote has proven to be the only fair method of voting and verifying elections, and

WHEREAS, the state of Missouri has, for over 170 years, voted as a 2-party dominant state consisting of Republicans and Democrats, and

WHEREAS, partisan primary elections have allowed fair election of one final candidate for each participating political party, and

WHEREAS, the proposed constitutional amendment to establish a ranked choice voting scheme effectively eliminates the fair and honest voting method of one person – one vote, and

WHEREAS, the proposed constitutional amendment to establish a ranked choice voting scheme effectively eliminates the balance of one primary winner from each participating political party on the primary ballot, and

WHEREAS, the proposed constitutional amendment to establish a ranked choice voting scheme effectively creates a complicated algorithm for tabulating votes and can turn a voter’s preferred choice into a vote for a candidate they oppose, and

WHEREAS, the proposed constitutional amendment to establish a ranked choice voting scheme effectively creates an election results verification impossibility for election authorities since the amendment language does not clearly define the tabulation process at the precinct level, and

WHEREAS, the proposed constitutional amendment to establish a ranked choice voting scheme is being funded by out-state money and not an effort by Missouri residents,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Missouri Republican Party hereby opposes the proposed constitutional amendment to establish a ranked choice voting scheme and is committed to upholding the longstanding method of voting by one person – one vote as the best method to represent the will of Missouri voters.
