Attorney General Hawley’s Message to Backpage: The Truth is Coming for You
JEFFERSON CITY — Attorney General Josh Hawley is leaving no room for excuses when it comes to holding Backpage.com accountable for its involvement in human trafficking.
In May, Hawley announced an investigation into allegations of human trafficking by Backpage. Last month, Backpage retaliated by filing a lawsuit to block the investigation.
But Hawley isn’t backing down. Today, he announced he filed a motion to dismiss Backpage’s suit and carry on his investigation, stating: “The truth is coming for you.”
“Attorney General Hawley isn’t afraid to go after Backpage.com or any other entity that promotes or facilitates something as cruel and morally corrupt as human trafficking,” said Keelie Broom, Communications Director for the Missouri Republican Party. “In Missouri, Attorney General Hawley has put predators like Backpage.com on notice: he won’t stop until you are caught and brought to justice.”
