FACT CHECK: Cort VanOstran Contradicts Himself on Corporate PAC Money

Cort VanOstran claims to have taken $0 in corporate political action committee money, and even brags about it in his social media. But the truth is that he has taken over $80,000 from Political Action Committees and candidate committees that are funded by huge sums of corporate PAC money.

According to his Federal Ethics Commission reports and OpenSecrets.org, Van Ostran has taken over $80,000 from PACs and several candidate committees and organizations that have taken corporate PAC money themselves. For example, VanOstran has received thousands from PACs like MoveOn.Org PAC and New Democrat Coalition PAC. Additionally, he’s received money from candidate committees like CHERPAC, Friends of Cheri Bustos, and Schiff for Congress, all of which have taken corporate PAC money.

“It’s amusing to watch Cort VanOstran brag about taking zero dollars in corporate PAC donations knowing that the organizations that launder money into his failing campaign are steeped in corporate PAC money,” said Chris Nuelle, spokesperson for the Missouri Republican Party.

Nuelle continued, “Cort knows he has no chance to beat Ann Wagner so he has gone to the old Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton playbook – say one thing, do another, and when in doubt, lie. Missourians aren’t so easily fooled.”
