In Light of Delta Field Day, Claire McCaskill’s Abysmal Agricultural Record
As the Missouri political world descends upon Fisher Delta Research Center in Portageville, one politician will certainly be out of place. That would be none other than Claire McCaskill, friend of the Hollywood elite, rubber stamp of Chuck Schumer, and enemy of Missouri agriculture.
Claire McCaskill happily voted in favor of several Obama-era EPA rules designed to cripple agriculture and rural Missouri, including the Clean Power Rule and the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.
WOTUS changed the definition of navigable waters in order to place huge swaths of Missouri land under government rule. Farmers opposed it, but Claire McCaskill voted to keep it in place anyway. And when Claire voted against the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, she voted to keep the death tax in place, which overwhelmingly hurts farmers.
Additionally, the party that Claire McCaskill heads up, the Missouri Democratic Party, led a crusade against Right to Farm, a measure that sought to push back against government overreach on Missouri farmers.
And lastly, Claire McCaskill lost the Missouri Farm Bureau endorsement vote by an embarrassingly huge margin to Josh Hawley because of her record against farmers, but also because she never even bothered to call Farm Bureau leadership back.
“Claire McCaskill may have polished talking points and D.C. consultants to help her speak to a rural audience, but the notion that she has fought for Missouri agriculture is laughable at best,” said Chris Nuelle, a spokesperson for the Missouri Republican Party.
Nuelle continued, “Her record of supporting legislation that hurts Missouri farmers reveals that she isn’t, in fact, a true friend of agriculture. Meanwhile, Josh Hawley has pledged to support Missouri farmers and won’t vote for government overreach, a stark contrast from Claire McCaskill.”
