MO Lawmakers Call on Sen. McCaskill to Support Missouri Farmers
Missouri Republican lawmakers are calling on Senator Claire McCaskill to vote to confirm Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Pruitt has been a strong and consistent voice against federal government overreach, leading the charge against the Waters of the United States rule, an instance of federal overreach Missouri farmers are all too familiar with.
The rule, which defines which rivers and streams fall under the protection of the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers, places 99% of Missouri under EPA authority, according to a Missouri Farm Bureau map.
“When the EPA regulates agriculture, Missouri’s top industry, costs rise for both the farmer and the consumer. I trust Scott Pruitt to protect Missouri farmers against unnecessary regulations and urge Senator McCaskill to confirm his nomination,” said State Senator Brian Munzlinger, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Food Production and Outdoor Resources Committee.
“Missouri farmers are tired of bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. telling them what to do. President-elect Trump picked Scott Pruitt because he has a proven record of fighting federal overreach, while balancing economic and environmental interests. Missourians should demand his confirmation immediately,” said State Representative Jay Houghton, Chairman of the House Agriculture Policy Committee.
