MOGOP Statement on Governor Greitens’ St. Louis Safety Plan

JEFFERSON CITY — This afternoon, Governor Greitens rolled out a groundbreaking plan designed to make St. Louis safer.

The plan brings together state, federal and city resources. Among other measures aimed at stamping out crime, it includes the creation of a new Special Operations Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and also calls for the deployment of a team of police officers tasked with finding and shutting down locations that sell drugs to children. As part of the plan, Missouri will also join the FBI and DEA’s Mission Save task force, which will focus on dismantling drug-trafficking organizations.

The plan also works to tackle crime from other angles by utilizing resources from the Department of Social Services, the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Corrections. It also establishes the State’s commitment to work alongside community leaders and charitable organizations to gain perspective on the issues that lead to crime and collaborate on solutions.

“Governor Greitens recognized that the severity of the crime problem called for an all-hands-on-deck response, and the St. Louis safety plan he laid out today provides exactly that,” said Austin Stukins, Director of the Missouri Republican Party. “This is an unprecedented, comprehensive plan that uses existing resources in new and improved ways to combat crime and promote safety,” Stukins continued. “It will allow us to make great strides in bringing peace to the streets of St. Louis.”
