Over Fifty Days Later
President Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court seven weeks ago. Since then, Claire McCaskill has done everything possible to keep her position vague.
Over fifty days later, Claire won’t tell us whether she’ll vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. She continues to ignore the majority of Missourians who want Judge Kavanaugh confirmed and firmly remains on the side of Chuck Schumer and the Resistance.
Yet, Claire’s ongoing refusal to take a position on high level nominees and issues isn’t something new. She has utilized this tactic again and again over the years. She took this approach with Justice Neil Gorsuch last year and CIA Director Gina Haspel this year.
After President Trump nominated Justice Gorsuch on January 31, 2017, Claire kept quiet. She dodged questions, and she tried to keep a low profile. But, when the time came to vote, she voted “NO”.
Over fifty days after Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination, it’s safe to assume Claire will vote “no” again.
After all, Claire was a rubber stamp for Obama’s judiciary, voting to confirm 100% of his nominees. In light of this, her vote against Gorsuch and her likely vote against Judge Kavanaugh are not surprising. They’re just another chapter in Claire’s liberal voting history.
Last year, Politico reported that Claire said, “”I am very comfortable voting against [Gorsuch].”
Such a statement should alarm Missourians from across the state. As a state, we voted overwhelmingly for President Donald Trump, and we overwhelmingly support Justice Neil Gorsuch and Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Additionally, a new poll found that 67% of Missourians support confirming Judge Kavanaugh. If Claire was comfortable voting against a Justice Gorsuch, a man Missourians supported, she’ll likely have no problem voting against Judge Kavanaugh, too.
It’s time for Claire McCaskill to finally vote with the interests of Missourians and stand up to Chuck Schumer and the Resistance.
