The so-called experts were wrong again. They predicted a jobless level in May that was the worst since the era of the Great Depression. Instead, it was the largest one-month job gain in U.S. history.
In May, 2.5 million American jobs were added and the U.S. unemployment rate decreased substantially. The report shows our national economy is recovering from the COVID-19 shutdowns.
President Donald Trump and Governor Mike Parson’s leadership on health and safety during the COVID-19 crisis saved lives. Their economic leadership in the years before the pandemic helped our economy weather the storm by building a strong foundation. Now, as our economy reopens, their policies will help lead to even stronger economic growth.
The strong U.S. jobs number and decrease in unemployment indicate we have reached the bottom of the crisis triggered by COVID-19. Small businesses in Missouri and everywhere are reopening and bringing back their employees.
The May jobs report paints an optimistic picture. And while the news is very encouraging, we must continue to Lead Right with policies supported by President Trump and Governor Parson to get more Missourians back to work as safely and quickly as possible.
