Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft Announces Reelection Campaign to Build on Successful First Term
At State Lincoln Days in Springfield, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft declared “We are not yet done. There is more to do.” as he announced his re-election bid for Missouri Secretary of State.
In his official announcement video, Jay Ashcroft touched briefly on some of the accomplishments he and his team achieved during his first term. As Missouri’s “Chief Election Official”, he noted that Missouri’s elections have been “smooth and secure,” Secretary Ashcroft added that his cyber and physical security staff have worked with county election officials across the state to maintain the security of every vote cast in Missouri. He emphasized that he has cut the budget at his office while implementing greater transparency to better protect taxpayer funds, making clear “It isn’t the government’s money. It’s yours.”
Jay stated the state government does not have “a revenue problem,” rather “it has a spending problem.” He noted that his office has followed the “rule of law” to safeguard the initiative petition and referendum process from those who try to use it to abuse the system. He has annually hosted an education retreat for state legislators “to foster legislative changes to ensure that every child in Missouri has the opportunity for a good education.” He added that for far too long too many children, particularly in our inner cities, have been denied a “meaningful education.”
Staying close to the people has meant Jay has traveled to all 114 counties in Missouri for the third straight year, held ‘Facebook Live’ town halls as well as hundreds of appearances around the state.
