The Truth About Obamacare and Its Costs to American Families
We wanted to share an important release we received from the NRSC yesterday that shows just how much Obamacare has cost American families. On average, increased premiums have cost American families an average of nearly $3,000 more per year. In Missouri, premiums have increased by a whopping 145%—which is even higher than the average national increase of 105%. You can see the full release here.
As the state of healthcare in Missouri continues to downward spiral, we are reminded that this nightmare was brought to us by Democrats like Claire McCaskill, who voted for Obamacare even though it was not structurally sustainable. Now that we have reached a new low, rather than working on a solution, McCaskill and other obstructionist liberals have effectively folded their arms and refused to participate. They held talk-a-thons, staged protests, and engaged in other theatrics, attacking Republicans for using “back-room” tactics and operating in secret.
This response from the Democrats is pretty remarkable, given that Obamacare passed the Senate in the dead of night on Christmas Eve in 2009. Perhaps the Democrats have also collectively forgotten that the architect of Obamacare, Jonathon Gruber, actually bragged about the secrecy surrounding Obamacare. He boasted that lack of transparency “was really, really critical to getting [Obamacare] to pass.” Gruber claimed that “the stupidity of the American voter” was also instrumental to the process. To add injury to insult, Obamacare has now crippled hard-working Americans with soaring premiums and dwindling choices.
One thing is clear: from its inception, Obamacare was a bad deal for Americans. Claire McCaskill was the deciding vote that locked this nightmare into place, and it has now proven to be an especially bad deal for Missourians.
