#UnitedWeStand for #LasVegas

As a nation, we are all still reeling from the horrific and sobering events that took place in Las Vegas on Sunday evening. As we process the magnitude of this tragedy, we are encouraged by the outpouring of love and solidarity that remind us of the ties that bind us as Americans.

The stories emerging from the devastation in Las Vegas are those of people acting as human shields to save the lives of perfect strangers, and people who escaped to safety only to return to harm’s way to help the wounded. During a visit to Las Vegas today, President Trump described stories of police officers standing in the line of fire while others crouched, first responders sacrificing their lives to save others, and a scene where when the worst of humanity struck, the best of humanity responded.

In the wake of the chaos, people across the nation have also shown powerful expressions of unity. The Empire State Building went dark, save for an orange halo at the top. Our flags flew at half-staff, and many of our own here in Missouri expressed prayers amid utter disbelief and heartbreak.

We hope that as we mourn together, we will also heal together through continued acts of love and unity. If you’d like to contribute, consider making a donation to the Las Vegas Victim’s Fund. Visit the fund here to learn more.

As we share compassion and support in the aftermath of this tragedy, we are inspired by the moments of profound unity that took place just before the gunman opened fire, when thousands of Las Vegas concertgoers joined in singing God Bless America. These moments remind us of the power of the American spirit.
